Title: Softcat named one of Europe's best workplaces

On Thursday June 16th Softcat was named the eighth Best Place to Work in Europe at this year’s Great Place to Work European Conference and Awards. This accolade comes after outright victory in the national awards in April, which saw Softcat, a leading national IT reseller, crowned the Best Workplace in the UK.

Held in Dublin this year, the Great Place to Work awards are considered the ‘gold standard’ of employer awards, honouring those companies who strive to create outstanding workplace cultures. This year Softcat also received Laureate status, in recognition of it achieving Best Workplace for five years in a row.

“This award means so much to us because not only is it judged by external moderators conducting their own independent audit, but also by employee surveys,” says Softcat MD Colin Brown. “We are so proud that the people who work for us are so positive about our workplace - we always say that Softcat is a family, and this latest award proves it.”

Not only is Softcat a happy business, but a profitable one too. Revenue for the last financial year was reported at £596 million, with gross profit of over £100 million. The company operates from six UK regional centres, and the current workforce owns 24% of the business.

Since its launch in 1997 Softcat has worked on the proven principle that outstanding employee satisfaction drives world-class customer service. With a 99% customer satisfaction rating, this is clearly proving to be the case.

Softcat isn’t about to rest on its Laureate status. Currently employing just over 850 people it has clear plans for continued growth, and is steadily recruiting 30 new members a month across six UK locations. Despite the scale of the organisation it continues to listen to what its employees have to say. This has been demonstrated by the opening of the Leeds office in February, on the recommendation of one of their employees who had joined as a graduate just six years previously. In its first year the new Leeds office went on to exceed Softcat’s 18% overall growth in revenue.

Time after time Softcat has proven that listening to employees doesn’t just make a happier, more motivated workforce, but a highly productive one too. “We are delighted that this latest award highlights our progressive, positive ethos,” says Colin Brown, “I want to thank all our employees for their incredible work and dedication.”
